It is a very classic design by Bob Loveless. Many modern knives are based on his, Bob Engnath's and Bill Moran's designs. My GP Hunter is a loose interpretation of Loveless' work.
The red spacers are part of Loveless' work. Red is almost always used for stag and pearl. I normally use black for contrast since white next to silver just washes out but I thought I'd give red a try. Contrast is key to creating a center of interest. I still prefer black for contrast but red does a decent job.
Every knife maker should spend some of his time working on classic designs. After all they are classics for a reason and you will learn from making them.

That is a very nice blade. You have added a few little bits--like the red layer in the handle--that really make it unique. very tight joints. thanks for the photos.
