About to start my 2nd X-kilt.
Ok, so I've been itching for a new kilt lately, my first one being the black X-Kilt I made with my mother's help last August. I had been thinking of purchasing a Utilikilt, but after browsing the forums for a few hours tonight, I think I'd rather make my own custom kilt, as that will not only be far cheaper, but it'll be something a bit more original that I made myself. So, my plan for this one is to do it all myself (eek!), hopefully starting in a few weeks once I'm able to locate and purchase the right material. That's the focus of my first question. I'm leaning towards a dark purple for this one, hopefully something similar to the color of this kilt. I'm planning on using the cotton/poly blend again. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a suitable material in such a color? Last time I just used the "Target" cotton/poly blend from JoAnns, but I don't know if they'll have a purple close enough (my local joanns couldn't get me the right material, so I had to shop a few hours away, otherwise I'd just stop by to check what they have). I appreciate any advice you all have, I can't wait to start on a new kilt.. ^_^
(I'll do my best to get some photos, once I actually start the process)

Alright, so today I was able to purchase my fabric. Burgundy Target, from JoAnn's. I bought a bit too much (6 yards, for a 33ish waist ;P. Oh, and thanks to a 50% off coupon on my Ipod, it only cost me 21$ for all of the fabric), but if this goes well I think I might try to make something for my little sister(s). It's a bit darker than my photo, due to a bright flash.. So, I'd like to use some of my leftover black cloth from my first X-Kilt for the underside of the pleats (as seen in the revised manual, I believe NewYorkBen is the member whose kilt is featured like this). However, I'm not really sure how to go about doing this. Do I just pin the extra fabric down as shown in the photo, then just sew it in as normal?
Anyway, here's a photo of the fabric; I can't wait to get started on this one. ^_^
(Oh, one more question. One problem I noticed with my last xkilt is that I prefer to wear it down around my hipbones, instead of at my naval like the instructions say. Would this just mean that I have the waist measurement be lower, and the fell would be shorter, since it'd be from hip bones to the rump measurement?)

Yeah, take the waist measurement at the lower point, where you want it to ride, and adjust the length of the fell accordingly.
Nice material, that's gonna look great.
