    Opinions sought…

I am originally from Ohio and was born-and-raised a Cleveland Browns fan. Today, I was playing around with Scotweb’s Tartan Designer program (great fun, by the way) when I got the idea of a Cleveland Browns tartan based on their helmet colors:

Upon seeing it over my shoulder, my loving wife mocked me along the lines of “dear god, what are you going to do next? make the purse-thing out of a football?” Well, despite her obvious joke, this struck me as either the best idea ever – or as way over the top.

Has anyone thought of doing NFL-based tartans before? Is a brown tanned leather sporran with a pebble-grain texture (and maybe even with white laces) a bit too much?

Yeah, I'd kind of like to do a Bengals tartan, but I'd probanlynever have an occasion to wear it.

Any way you can think of to break up your design a bit?

    Regards,
    Rex.

There was a guy that had his super bowl football made into a sporran.

    Edit: found it!

I would say no. They have rugby tartans (I think). Why not football?

Hmmm....Perhaps you should narrow the white and black lines slightly and put a narrow green (astroturf?) line in the midst of the brown. In my opinion it would liven it up a tad.

Bear in mind that I'm not, nor will ever be a football fan! But the tartan would be snazzy!

As for "over the top," while it may not be my cup o' tea, its about what you like.

I have a kilt in the Cladish tartan from USAK http://www.usakilts.com/store/cas_kiltpage.php that I am very fond of, so your Browns tartan looks great. Although I do like the suggestion of adding the green line for the grass/astroturf. But I say go for it! Living near Knoxville, I do know that there is a Volunteer (UT Knoxville) tartan, so why not some NFL tartans?

I really like the color combination but it feels a bit too much like a table cloth. I'm with Rex, try varying the design a bit, add a bit more complexity and I think it will be first and goal.
