    Red Deer Antler Sgain Dubh

Made this a while ago, before I even had a kilt. It's a bit too bulky to be a user, but it's nice all the same.

Well mastered piece, but as you noticed, hard to wear in hose.

It looks very good but if it has a sharp edge is there any danger from what is known as stag horn poisoning? Do you have to treat it specially first?

An incredibly cool looking sgian! I like the idea of processing the antler a bit less and leaving it more whole like you've done.

Utility goes down a bit...but cool factor goes way up in my mind.

I used an old taxidermist's trick to avoid any problems with the antler, which is, "Use a realy realy old piece, then leave it in a box of vascelene for a day or two," this ensures that the antler doesn't rot, you get a cool colour on the outside and the inside is tough enough to house a blade.

But the vast problem is just the usability, which is sad, but at least it gets to sit proudly on my wall ^^

Consuming antler velvet has been linked to some toxicity, but I've never seen anything that indicates that the dried bone is in any way dangerous. Please elaborate.
