saffron canvas duck

I just ordered this saffron duck cloth [they call it nutmeg, but whatev] because I want an "Irish" and haven't been able to find fabric in that color. Sometimes duck can be way too stiff for clothing, but this 10-ounce washable version seems like it might work. Anyway, it's inexpensive enough to check out.

Looks just like the "caramel" color workman's model Utilikilt. It's quite stiff, especially after a wash. It won't feel like a wool (or acrylic or anything else, for that matter) kilt. Tough, though.

I'm hoping that a few hot-water washes will loosen it up enough. If not, I'll just make lawn furniture or something ...

Wash it with fabric softener before you sew it. You have to prewash it anyways.

Well, I never use softener or any other additives before I sew. I don't want anything in the cloth that might gum up the needle or the machine. In fact, I wash [or dry clean] everything, whether it will shrink or not, to remove sizing, softener, or whatever.
