"Sgian brew"
ok, so I haven't got my kilt yet (it was shipped monday from SWK) but as I was browsing the forums I came accross someones (sorry can't remember who) Sgian dubbh collection, including one of their "Sgian brews"
So of course being impulsive I had to go out, buy an old metal bottle opener from a thrift store, some hardwood from home depot, a bit of leather and a metal button for the top, and in 24 hours came up with this,
The handle is made from hardwood dowelling(oak i beleive), just sanded down and shaped a little bit and stained with min wax ebony stain

had to make sure that it works

I'm making a couple sgian dubhs right now, and have a couple Celtic knot buttons that I was thinking of using as butt caps. That settles it- at least one is getting a button. That looks cool!

I'm not sure myself, Its hard to tell from the photo (it was taken with my blackberry) but it is shaped into a bit of an oval, however not much of one, plus the leather strip might irritate a bit
so of course, I've already started making #2 which will feature more of a flat handle, that one will be a slower project however, i'm right in the middle of my college exams so its gotta wait
Thanks
Iain
