| | | source for Harris Tweed: anyone bought from here?
I've finally found a possible source, for tweed yardage ( Harris Tweed, from "Harris Tweed textiles"- on-line) and wondering if anyone has had experience with their fabric/tweed? http://www.harris-tweed.co.uk/index.htm
if so: is the selvage good enough for a 'kilting selvage', or did you have to hem it?
thanks, in advance, for your tips

That company is on my wish list at the moment, I haven't so far bought from them, but on other harris fabrics the selvedge isn't perfect, so I ended up hemming the ones I worked with.
The problem is just that the tweed is a thicker cloth so the hem has to be done carefully so that it isn't too obvious and bulky, but it can be done and look good.
I suspect if you ask them they would understand why you need a good edge and they might be able to help, it's worth try!

I've tried buying from them but I haven't been able to get them to answer my emails. Good luck!

Thanks! both Paul & Matt.
Gordon ( @ Fraser & Kirkbright) was kind enough to tell me that the 310/340 g/mt weight, for the 'single width' (71/71 cm), "translates" to about 17 oz. , which would be just fine, for making either kilts or jackets ( I think).
great price too!
Hoping for someone to say they have actually bought Tweed from this website, and liked it!

Those prices do seem nice. You could try to order swatches. They were 1.50 GBP each and the shipping was 2.50 GBP. Its done through paypal, so I guess its a safe transaction.

well: I DID get an email reply ( from an Ann MacCallum/ ann@harris-tweed.co.uk) ( apparently they are closed on Fridays, which is do doubt why there was no answer to the phone call I made & she is 'off island').
I have ordered swatches, in all three weights ( "standard" which I figure is about 18 oz.; "lightweight" , which I calculate to be about 16 oz.; and "featherweight", which Ann informs me: "would be ideal for a kilt ( a designer on the island and one in Edinburgh both use HT in their kilts very successfully.), also for Jacket and Vest.".
I will post a review, in future, once I have ordered & received actual yardage.
