sporran-making film

I've only just joined and thought I'd start by contributing this link to a great 1950s film on sporran making. It illustrates a lot of tricks of the trade that anyone lacking a background in leatherworking may find revelatory!

I agree that the craftsmanship and detail shown in that video are rarely seen on today's market. I'm no leather worker, so I've been wanting to see how those details were made in a really nice, hand made sporran.

Wow, nice video.
Now I know what kind of tools to use working leather. I imagine that there are probably better modern version for most of them. I think I've seen a few of these old ones at the local thriftstore. I will have to go take better look....

Great video...two things struck me. First, the gentleman is in tie and jacket, when was the last time you saw that, and second, the cavalier manner in which the rubber cement was applied. I'm usually so paranoid about it getting where it doesn't belong that it's refreshing to see someone slapping it on with confidence. Wonderful to see how a crafstman does things.

Awesome, really!

Neat to see how he did, well, everything. Answers many long time questions on how everything comes together. Fun to see someone have such a great mastery of tools the way he had. Evey part from scratch too! I wonder how much time it actually took him begining to end?

I too was amused by the coat and tie, a different time and space.
