A spot of flower arranging

Well, my wedding is fast coming up and since my best man will be the only guest on the groom's side, the rush has been on to help him complete his kilted outfit.
It's slowly coming together now that I've explained why he can't wear a sports coat as-is.

I had a buttonhole that I wore to my sister's wedding which was nice, but a bit too big and gaudy for my tastes. So I sat down with some Macdonald Modern ribbon, some small, fake heather, ferns and some feathers I found outside and done some flower arranging while I watched the rugby. (I am so manly I can do both at the same time!)

So, this is the buttonhole I made for my best man, Seamus.

And this is the one I made for myself.

I'm really happy with how they turned out. It'll be a nice keepsake after the wedding and it was about 1/16th of the cost to buy the supplies and make them.
(All the local florists and wedding stores charge a fortune.)

No. I offered, but he is happy with the harp sgian dubh I got him as a borthday gift a few years back.

I am, however, making a useable sgian dubh at the moment to give to Diane after the wedding.
(In some places here it's a tradition for the groom to present the bride with a blade as a symbol that he will protect her and provide her with sons who will protect her. So she can keep it for the day when we might possibly hopefully have a son.)

Good for you Arlen - they both look really great! Reminds me of when I made my daughter's bouquet of peach and pink baby roses - very nice!

I like tradition that the groom gives the bride a blade to hand down to a future son, thats a nice tradition, I may have to add that to my up coming wedding as well. do you know any more traditions like that? I would also love any advise on Scottish weddings, since Im planning mine there in 09. if you PM me any info that would be great

- an we had an audience participation/drinkin' cheerin' ceremony....
