suiting weight, suitable for kilts?

Hello all,
I've been scanning the web for some fabric for a potential x-kilt, and keep coming upon what is described as "suiting" weight wool material. In the descriptions the say it is usable for suit/sports jackets, p@!#s, and skirts. Would this work for a lightweight kilt, or an x-kilt?

Check out your local fabric store for "suiting" weight fabric. I think you will find it much lighter than what you want.

Another suggestion for a x-kilt is to chose an inexpensive and easy to wash fabric that does not wrinkle too bad. Hand wash or dry clean only are probably not what you are looking for?

The Fabrics that are listed as "Suiting" today are usually a very fine weave. If you look through the stores as Mens and Womens suits you will see what I mean.

These fabrics drape very nicely for the application they were designed for. And would be suitable for a Casual or Hot Climate Kilt.

But do not expect them to have the feel or swish of a true Kilt weight fabric.

But hey, you said you are making an X Kilt right? Then go ahead and use whatever fabric you can find and like. That is what the X Kilt was designed to do. Use inexpensive fabrics and allow almost anyone the chance to make something for themselves.
It's supposed to be fun. So go ahead and try it.

What the Wizard said. It's supposed to be fun, and it doesn't take a millennium to sew an X-Kilt, so if you make one and you feel that the fabric is too light, then go get something heavier for the next one.

My gut feeling is that it will be on the light side.
