    Traditional Garter Ties

Like several others here at X-marks I decided to try making traditional garter ties. I've actually made all the garter ties I own, the others are made of Elastic, velcro, and ribbon.

These new set are made of yarn and they are hand braided. The production photos show the second garter tie being made.

I've made a master strand of yarn that is 75" long.

I cut out 9 others to match that length.

I tied the ends to a hangar in the format 3 groups of 3.

    Enjoy!!!

    The materials.

The width of the 1st garter tie. About 1".

Preparing the strands on the hangar.

There's actually Scotch tape rapped around the hangar to help separate the sets of strands.

    Braiding the strands!

I've actually hooked the hangar on the collar of my shirt. It makes for an easy and comfortable work position.

    Finished braiding...

Knots are tied at the same length and position as the 1st tie and cut from the hangar.

Cutting the fray the same length.

    Mostly finished....

The tightness and thickness of the braid looks good - Good Job
