Wrap around garter flashes on the super cheap.

Below is a super cheap (64 cents) pair of those wrap around garter flashes that I fashioned from some cotton strapping, I bought at Joanne's fabric store.

I have 19" calves, so I bought 4 yards at 16 cents a yard. I wrapped them three times around my calf at the proper height, left a little to hang down and trimmed off the excess. I then un-raveled the ends and frayed them a bit, took a couple of stitches with red thread to keep them from un-ravelling further, and Presto-Change-O a pair of wrap aroung flashes.

The cotton ones seem to work just as well as the higher priced wool types, and suits my frugal nature. I saw green, black red, blue and white straps available by the yard.

That's a cool idea, and it would probably go well with the casual look I aim for, thanks.
Now that I think about it I could work that into the grizzled desert hurmit look I've been working on too, te he.

Those are great, I won't wear the elastic kind any longer but the traditional ties are just perfect.

I've been wearing these for a while, I found the cotton webbing at Hobby Lobby. There weren't any other colors at the time... I need to get back and see what I can find. I much prefer them.

Here's a small up-date. I have some nylon webbing straps left over from some other projects, and they don't fray or slightly stretch enough to make then worthy of wrap around garters.

If you can't find cotton, don't try nylon. -- keep looking for cotton.

A bit of trial-and-error with Rit dye and the white cotton webbing and you'll have perfectly matching ties. The Rit web site has tips on mixing colors to give the desired shades.
