I have noticed many of the subtle changes and improvements. Can someone please explain this:

The Tartan Place Supported by The Scottish Tartans Museum and The Scottish Tartans Authority.

What does this mean and what support are they giving?

This forum has the support of two of the best resources on Tartan. Two of our members, Matt Newsome, representing The Scottish Tartans Museum, and figheadair, representing The Scottish Tartans Authority have shared their passion and years of research freely with the membership.

Both institutions are dedicated to the collection and preservation of the art of Tartan.
Both institutions also have operating expenses. The STA meets its expenses through membership and the STM by its gift shop and private donations.

For years Matt Newsome has served as Director of the STM, and representative of the Museum’s gift shop. He has now added to his responsibilities his own, personal business, New House Highland.

After speaking with Matt, and after discussions he had with the governing board of the Museum, a decision was made to separate The Scottish Tartans Museum, the STM Gift Shop, and New House Highland. Each will have its own representative to the forum.

The STM Gift Shop will continue in its own dedicated section of the forum under our valued Partner Advertisers. New House Highland now joins our advertisers as a separate entity.

We have always looked for a way to allow the both the STA and the STM to continue as research, collection and preservation institutions without the stigma of commercialism.

This, we hope, will allow The Scottish Tartans Museum to dedicate itself, and fulfill its potential, as a world-class museum.
