I have spent entire 8-9 day periods with no other option while in full 18th century regalia, If I can do it in a 2 or more floor length petticoats it can't be too bad in a kilt.

you know, as a lady we learn how to umm... do the do in a skirt gracefully at about 5. I had never even thought of it as a skill.

I just pull the back of my kilt up and the sides around me, then tuck the ends in my belt or the front of the apron. It holds itself up and even though it spreads the pleats out, it doesn't seem to cause any problem when I put the back back down.

Standing up is no problem as long as you take yourself into a cubicle. The sitting down is more of a challenge. I'm lucky, my body always relieves itself in good time prior to going out.

I've never had a problem. I think you're over thinking this. I just make sure there is no fabric between me and the "target"

I remove mine and drape over my shoulders, as others seem to do here. BUT, when I'm at the Ren Fest and am wearing a genuine great kilt, this is not possible. So, I follow the advice of those who keep their kilt on - bend over and flip the hem over onto my back and hold down, etc..
