I made my own practice implements and for the hammer and weight for distance I used logging chain in six link segments threaded a smaller chain thru and closed with a quick connect. Worked like a charm and never busted my pvc handled hammer.

Looks great. I need to start making mine. Was looking into this thread http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...503/index.html

Seems pretty easy as well.

BigMike,

Yaish definately gave great instructions on those chain weights. I have a se that I made. Compared to the "pipe" model that Ryan and I show above--the chain weight slop around a bit more. That's ok if you are experienced and your footwork is good, I think it even adds to your practice because the weight 'fights' ya a bit. But if your footwork isn't spot on, it can be more work then necessary and actually NOT allow you to practice good form--Ok just my opinion I only weigh 185 lbs--so for a 'workout' I use the chains--for form I use the pipes.

re

Yes these homemade ones feel quite a bit different than the real competition implements but better than nothing at all. That's why I'm getting some real competition implements made for me this year. I should be getting it in a couple of weeks, then I can practice like a maniac on my own time.
