Last of the season: with pictures

Wow! That went fast! My goal this year was to ease back after some injuries and see IF I could still compete. I took some good advice and paid better attention to my body while throttling back a bit. I kept telling myself that it was better to live to throw another day then to push my injuried to a point where I might not be able to ever come back.

It worked. I kept things at a 75-80% effort, but when I was sure, I let a few rip and actually had some PR's as well as turned some fairly big cabers. I tanked on some things too, but always made sure I could do as much as I could do wisely.

So I made it through SEVEN games and had probably the best season (on the fun scale) that I've ever had.

The following pictures are from the final games of the year for me--tell me if it looks like we were having fun?

We call this: Atomic drop the smarta$$. I totally deserved it!

And finally--just as one might start thinking we athletes take things WAY too seriously...

I just needed a BIT of aeronautical enhancement to improve the flight-worthiness of my sheaf!

Looks like a good end to a season. I'm glad that things have worked out in the end in spite of the injuries.

Love the goggles and I am still amazed at your calf muscles! OMG!
Highland games wouldn't be nothing much without ya, thanks for the show. I am glad you took it easy so you can open the can of whoop ass next year.

Good move on easing up. Glad you didn't have a relapse and go full bore! Looks like you had a grand time, and now you'll be able to enjoy the games again

Two things...

1. Your calf muscles frighten me. I am now hiding under the covers with a flashlight.

2. The sheaf tossing outfit is BOSS! Way to rock the pilot cap.

The cap and goggles belong to a great guy who had to stop throwing due to knee replacements. He always wore this gear when throwing the sheaf. He was our Athletic Director and coordinated everything for these games, so I thought it was a good way to honor him and keep the tradition alive. If you make it to the MWC this year, he'll be one of the judges--and yep--I'll be carrying on the tradition there too
