    An Amazing Website

Apologies to whomever this is old news to, but I just stumbled onto this incredible website.

    http://www.kiltmakers.com/kiltstobuy.asp

It doesn't just show tartans. It shows swatches from a lot of mills that make the tartan fabric you're looking for AND it shows the fabric weight!

While I'm sure Kiltmakers would hope you'd order their kilt from them, the site sure is an easy way to locate the tartan you want in the weight you want and know the mill that makes it when you order up from your own kiltmaker.

Never seen so much info combined on one site.

I don't know if these guys have a famous name or the like but their kilts seem on the expensive side, a whole £100 more than I paid for my MacTavish from my kilt maker. As Ron said, it looks good to check out the differing tartans and availabilities.

    Ron,

I really like to use www.tartanweb.org for this kind of search. It has actual photo swatches of the tartans available from five different woolen mills (Lochcarron, Batleys, House of Edgar, Strathmore, and Marton Mills), and you can limit your search to one or all of the mills. Plus, they don't sell anyting directly off the site, it's for informational purposes. Pretty helpful!

    Aye Matt,

I find that site more tedious to go through for me. If I go to the clan dropdown on their home page they do have a swatch of the MacMillan Dress (red and yellow) that I'm looking for, along with a red x that won't respond to show picture. Guessing that has the mill source.

If I go to the search by tartan I get the usual array of MacMillan tartans, but NOT the dress MacMillan that I'm looking for that they show on the drop down?? And still a lot of "no image" swatchs, though I'm sure its a LOT of work to put together such a comprehensive website.

Roses and orchids, both beautiful...just the other works better for me. And tartans by air is still the best place to see full screen tartan and compare tartans.

    For me, that is...

Cessna (Alex) should know who Houston Kiltmakers are since they come from his neck of the woods. I didn't find the site very easy to use although the tartan swatches are good.

Good catch brother Ron that's going to come in handy. I also like tartanweb.org but it seems there are plenty of samples from that site that don't or won't show up on my computer.
