Assistance identifying a tartan, also soliciting suggestions!

An friend of mine, influenced (I hope!) by how smartly turned out I am in a kilt, has decided (being of the needle and thread sort) to try making a kilt skirt for herself.

She has obtained a copy of the Art of Kiltmaking and has become somewhat daunted by the excellent photos and detailed descriptions of what NOT to do. She's decided, that for her first effort, a very muted tartan would be appropriate, both because she appreciates earth-tones, and also she feels it will camouflage any beginner errors.

We were browsing the Lochcarron website for inspiration the other day, when she pointed to the background image and said "That's what I want!"

So......anyone have any idea what tartan Lochcarron uses for the background image on their website? Unfortunately, I can't post a pic (it's copyrighted).

Alternatively can anyone suggest a similarly "low-contrast" tartan? I've been browsing for various weathered tartans, but there always seems to be a very bright line or three....

Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

It would be Douglas Weathered.

A good 'low-contrast' Weathered tartan would be Black Watch Weathered.

Another very low contrast tartan is Black Isle-- basically black with a subtle grey tartan pattern overlying that only shows in good lighting situation,

Almost any of the simpler weathered tartans--Douglas, MacDonald, BlackWatch would work, depending on whether she wants light or dark overall effect.

Yeah, I had that happen to me once too, and had to ask the same question. It's on my wish list.

Regards,
Rex.
