    Black Watch Grenadier

Does anyone know where I can acquire some of the Black Watch "Grenadier" pattern I have heard mentioned in some articles about the Highland Regiments of the American Revolution? This is Black Watch with a red stripe throughout, and I'd like to get a picture and possibly a kilt made from such.

    Thank you in advance.

I have one - I bought it as part of my re-enactment unit - "Muskets of the Crown". You might be able to purchase the material from them. The material is unpleated. Since you want to have it made into a modern kilt, that should be just what you want. Be forewarned, it is a "wee kilt", they wore them shorter in those days, so we have to trim the material down ourselves - we make our own. They might be able to help you out, either sell it to you, or tell you where they obtain it. Here's the link:

We re-enact Grenadiers of both the 77th Reg't of Foot, Montgomerie's Highlanders, Seven Years War and 42nd Royal Highland Reg't You might be able to purchase one from them.

The material is wool and we wear it as a belted plaid of course. You could puchase two, sew them together and have a great kilt. I have a wee kilt for the 42nd and am working on my great kilt to be worn for the 77th. The 42nd is the one with the red stripe added to the standard black watch or government sett. The 77th does not have the red stripe.

If I remember correctly, the material came with instructions also.
