Calling Clan Turnbull
Our local paper, the Hawick News, carried a feature yesterday about a new bronze statue being provided by the Turnbull Clan Association at the entrance to the new Heritage Hub. In 1313, William Rule of Bedrule saved the life of Robert the Bruce by grabbing an angry bull by the horns and turning it away from its attack on Bruce. Bruce renamed him Turn Bull, hence the clan name and the statue will depict Rule holding the bull by the horns and turning its head to the left. The sculpture cost £100,000 and was funded by Turnbull Clan Association, although the plinth is being funded by public money and local business through the Hawick Partnership. To mark the unveiling of the statue and the opening of the Heritage Hub, Turnbull Clan Association are to stage their AGM in Hawick in June of this year and have also taken over the Cross Keys Inn at Denholm Village, near Hawick, for an evening to hold a dinner and a private performance by Scocha. The report states that the chairman of Turnbull Clan Association is a Wally Turnbull who lives in North Carolina but they also name a local contact, George Turnbull of Martinshouse, for more information and for tickets for the dinner and Scocha concert, which is open to Turnbulls only.
