    eBay Find!! District Tartans Book

Just received a copy of District Tartans by Gordon Teal of Teallach and Philip D Smith, published in 1992.

There are 56 Scottish district tartans illustrated, a further 20 from the rest of Britain, Wales and the Isle of Man, and 34 from other countries, of which most are Canadian and US.

While somewhat out of date, compared with the range of district tartans now available, it is interesting to read the author's view that district tartans have at least as long a pedigree as clan tartans.

A bonus is the title page has been signed by Philip Smith in 2000, with a gaelic inscription.

I will have to think about the Sutherland tartan, since that is the district that my MacRae ancestors left from.

You are a very lucky man indeed; I paid far too much for my copy back in 2000, and its not even autograph. Still, it's worth every penny I paid for it!

    Very cool!
That is the same Phil Smith, I believe, who has an adult son who is in the Flint Scottish Pipe Band in Flint, Michigan!
