| | | Found It! The Recovery Tartan (or AA Tartan)
Some time ago there was a question from someone who thought there was a tartan for Alcoholics Anonymous.
Today, surfing Tartans by Air I ran across the Recovery tartan. It was created by a 12 step style alcohol and drug treatment center in Scotland, the Craig Castle Clinic, to fund raise.
And, like the original questioner thought, it combines features of the Wilson and Smith tartans (AA's original members/founders).
Here's a copy of part of the Craig Castle Clinic press release about the tartan back in 1998
"The Recovery Tartan is now officially recognised by the Scottish Tartan Society and will prove a source of great inspiration to the millions of people who have fought so hard to accept their illness and who have embarked on their recovery. Every time they don an article of clothing made with the Tartan or use furnishings that can be made with the Tartan it will be a constant reminder and source of pride that they are entitled to use the Recovery Tartan". The Tartan is the inspiration of Peter McCann who designed the Tartan in conjunction with one of Scotlands oldest Tartan weaving companies in consultation with the Scottish Tartan society and individual member of AA,NA and Al-Anon. "What we did" continues Peter McCann "was to combine the traditional Tartan of the Wilson Clan and the Smith Clan, these being the founders of AA. With some skilful adjustments to colour the combined designs have been formed into a new original Tartan worthy of the magnificent fellowships that have sprung from the pioneering work of the founders of the AA".
The entire press release is at https://listserv.heanet.ie/cgi-bin/w...nn&T=0&P=17034
You can see the tartan at the Tartan's by Air site under R http://tartans.byair.net/
There's also a Recovery Dress tartan and a Recovery Hunting tartan.
They're woven by Lochcarron.
Another one for my list for sure.
And, Mods, There are at least five of us on this board who are sober members of Alcoholics Anonymous. Hope you'll let this post stay.
Thanks,
Ron

Thanks for sharing this, Ron!
Bill W would have loved it - and my Mom would have, too.

With twelve pleats for sure.
I wish strength and clear vision to all those that have undertaken this chapter in life.

Totally cool brother Ron - great job of sleuthing. Proof positive that you would "go to any lengths" to find a truly representative tartan!

Hey...was just surfing and got lucky...remembered the first question...glad there is one for us....
They called it a "Recovery" tartan, so I missed it. I'd been looking under "Olde Drunk."
So cool that Lochcarron is the weaver.
I haven't yet decided between the regular and the hunting....
They don't mention the tartan at the clinic site http://www.castlecraig.co.uk/
But they do show a very cool Recovery "Clan Crest" of a butterfly...might make a nice tattoo if I can find the space.
Hey wait, I did some more surfing and there's a Recovery Tartan Website http://www.recoverytartan.com/
Must be a seventh tradition deal, keeping it seperate.
Ron

I like that Tartan. That would make a nice Christmas Tartan.

I was kind of thinking of the dress I would be really cool to wear it to the ORC next year with my Prince Charlie, too bad I didn't know about for the world conference that was here last year.

| Why on earth wouldn't they? AA, NA, et al. are non-religious, non-sectarian, and apolitical; considerably less offensive than...well, me, for instance.
