    Gragmillar?

    Anyone heard of Gragmillar? I've supposedly got ancestors from there, but I can't find it on the map nor the net.

    I'm doubting my relation to them, but who knows.

    How sure are you of the spelling? Be that as it may, I think Fedgunner has it right.

    I agree with Fedgunner as well. I've also found it listed as a surname in Black's book. p. 180

    Hmm, I'm beginning to think it is a spelling mistake, I saw the name "Gilmour" and that's what I was trying to find.

    Thanks for all the help and the link.

    I wonder why I found different spelling...

    Craigmillar is an area in Edinburgh which has its own castle in medeival times it was the seat of the Prestons and in 1660 fell into the hands of Alexander Gilmour. Mary Queen of Scots often stayed at Craigmillar Castle.

    As a wee boy I used to play in and out of the castle before they had a keeper and the National Trust started to charge for entry ...sniff! ,..memories.
