Welcome. There are several people on the forum who are experts in this, and I'm sure that they will answer your question. Good luck.
The Moderators will probably move your thread to the Heraldry and Tartan section, so don't worry.

A search with the Tartan Ferret at the Scottish Tartans Authority doesn’t show a Cavin tartan. As a sept of the Douglas Clan of course you would be ‘entitled’ to wear that tartan. Many of us maintain you can wear any tartan you wish just do so with respect and pride.

There is a Country Cavan tartan from Ireland, and it's absolutely gorgeous. All my family is from County Cavan, so the next major kilt purchase will be an 8yrd hand sewn County Cavan.

Traceing my family from scotland to ireland has been kind of frustrateing, especialy when your trying to find your family coat of arms and tartan

In Scottish heraldry, there is no such thing as a "family coat-of-arms". Arms belong to an individual:

Here is the link to the Septs of Clan Douglas from the Clan Douglas Society

It seem the name Caven is on their list, so yes the Douglas Tartan would be completely acceptable.
