    Hendersons in Fordell Scotland

Hey all, I've got a question that's been bothering me for a while.
I've heard stories and read articles about how Hendersons aren't welcome in Fordell, even though one of the branches of clan Henderson originated there. Is this true? If it's true, why don't they like us there?
Maybe someone familiar with the area will know. Fordell is near the town of Cowdenbeath in Fife.

I vaguely recall this had something to do with some rather obnoxious people invading the grounds of Fordell Castle, insisting on "ancient clan rights" or some such tosh shortly after Nicholas Fairbairn had restored the castle. (And what a magnificent job he did!) I suspect that "incident" may be the root of the "Henderson's go home" stories attributed to Fordell.

As a mater of personal interest, my ghillile for years was Wm. "Chuck" Henderson, an absolutely FIRST CLASS GENTLEMAN. When Mr. Henderson passed away some five years ago it fell to me to have the honour of carrying out his last request. A life-long American Civil War enthusiast (and re-enactor, once he had retired) he wished to have his ashes scattered over the Gettysburg battlefield, something I was proud to do.

So, if I owned Fordell Henderson's would always be welcome.

A gameskeeper or hunting/fishing guide. The style of shoe is named after them.

To be precise and believe me these things matter up here. A Gamekeeper is a gamekeeper, a ghillie is a fishing guide and sometimes the term ghillie is used in deer stalking terms as the Stalker's(deer shooting guide) assistant.Woe betide you if you get the distinction wrong! To confuse things even more, they will all (with luck) help each other out, never but never confuse who is who!

Such things not being a part of life here, I would doubtless need a program to tell who's who.

Fortunately, my current faux pas perhaps has prevented me from making a more substantial one in person.

I have seen,to my cost, such a faux pas happen.Amazingly a stag was shot late in the evening after a gruelling 15 mile walk and I know full well that the stag was lying within a mile of home and could have been shot within an hour of the day starting.I knew what had happened even before the storm of complaints landed around my ears.Don't worry the keepers, stalkers and ghillies are real experts in their field and they are used to people getting things wrong----ONCE!
