I know someone else will come up with the name, but I grew up with this book. The edition we had wasn't much bigger than palm of my adult hand, was hard cover and had 'all' the tartans listed with those great illustrations. Brought back some fond memories!

Robert - it's from The Scottish Tartans, Histories of the Clans, Chief's arms and Clansmen's Badges published by Johnston & Bacon 1945, last reprint (my copy) 1979.

I recently picked up a copy of this from eBay - they are not expensive.

Another great place to try is www.abebooks.com This is a great resource for ANY book, especially out of print stuff. I have found incredible deals on books I thought I would never be able to find. It is a catalogue of thousands of book sellers around the world. Postage is usually reasonable (but check to make sure) and of the 100 or so books I have purchased through this service, only one was mis-labelled in condition.
