    MacFarlane Ancient tartan

Can anyone recommend a website where I can find a pic of the MacFarlane Ancient tartan from Lochcarron? I have a MacGregor Red Ancient from the House of Edgar, and the MacGregor Red Ancient and the MacFarlane Red Ancient are identical in terms of the orange.

Any good websites where I could find a pic of the MacFarlane Ancient tartan from Lochcarron would be appreciated. I know that Lochcarron offers this tartan in 13 ounce medium weight.

    Thanks

Take a look at www.lochcarron.com there is a section called "Plaids & Tartans"; click on "Strome" at the bottom of the page and it will take you to their tartan finder. Both the Ancient and Modern MacFarlane tartans are shown. The Modern Macfarlane is a great looking tartan.

    macfarlane ancient

    Freelander Sporrano:

I actually have the MacFarlane Hunting Ancient and MacFarlane Hunting Modern. They are both really nice tartans. I just figured that the MacFarlane Ancient would be different. But, the more I look at the ancient tartan, I think I will just stay with the Hunting Ancient and Hunting Modern.

    Thanks

Here is a 5-yd knife pleated kilt I made in the ancient MacFarlane tartan. The cloth is Lochcarron's 16 oz range.

    Smile macfarlane ancient tartan

    M.A.C Newsome:

Is the pic of the gentleman in the MacFarlane Ancient kilt you showed me a pic of from Lochcarron or House Of Edgar. I now you said Lochcarron 16 oz, but I know you can also get the MacFarlane ancient tartan from Lochcarron in 13 ounce medium weight.

    Thanks

Being a MacFarlane myself, I have looked for my clan's tartan in the past. Clan MacFarlane is one of the smaller clans of the South Western Highlands, so it can be hard to find good information.

First some general advice that will often work for most any clan:
1). See if there is a clan society. It just so happens that the Clan MacFarlane Society can be found on line at:
    http://www.macfarlane.org
They have a 'Septs & Tartans' link with pictures and a nice write up about the tartans.
2). Any custom kilt maker will be delighted to show you pictures of any tartan you would like see. Online examples include lochcarron (as mentioned above) or ScotWeb http://kiltstore.net (and many others).

A more specific piece of advice, take a quick look at Sport Kilt. If you are looking for an inexpensive option, they happen to have MacFarlane Hunter Modern.
