Mardi gras tartan?

Has anyone heard of a Mardi Gras tartan? I have searched STA, STWR and Scotweb and have found nothing by that name. A purple, gold and green tartan could be quite vibrant.

The only thing I found close to that color combination is Glasgow Cathedral, #4996, designed by Locharran. It's mostly purple and green with two narrow yellow stripes, but also has a broad dark blue stripe and a narrow light blue one.

(For those of you not familiar with the American South, purple, gold and green are the colors of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana.)

I'm not aware of one either, but there is an official Louisiana tartan. Both my Cajun wife and MIL wear it to Scottish functions.

Correction...its the official colors of Mardi Gras EVERYWHERE, as deemed by Rex, King of Carnival in 1872. In 1892 they were given meanings: Green=faith, Purple=justice, Gold=power.

There is no official Mardi Gras tartan, but I was playing around one day and created one on the computer. Be sure to shade your eyes before looking

You never know...remember that there are a number of Cajuns with Scottish & Irish ancestry...for example, my wife's ancestors, the Melancons, are either English or Scottish in origin. The name is also spelled Melanson, and is claimed by the Clan MacMillan is a sept, although most research indicates that the name came from Yorkshire.

Cajuns are not just French -- you'll find Spanish, German, African, Native-American and several other groups/peoples in their "ethnic gumbo". Another branch of my wife's family were Germans who settled in St. James parish along the German Coast.

And, the Louisiana tartan was designed to represent all of Louisiana, not just the Scots. Anyone may wear it, which is why my wife and her mother wear it to the Scottish functions we attend. I would certainly wear my kilt to a Cajun gathering -- All of my wife's Cajun relatives love it!

There are three ways to become a Cajun, according to my MIL -- "by the ring, by the blood and by the backdoor." I am now a Cajun by two of them.

Besides, it's Mardi Gras -- Lassiez les Bon Temps rouler after all!
