Mizzou Plaid

Hello All,

A new tartan has just been registered for the University of Missouri and is called "Mizzou Plaid".

Now some people will love it and some will hate it - that is not what I am asking. When I look at it, I find that I can't focus on it properly. Whether this is to do with it being an asymmetric design or the number of white lines all in the same area, I don't know. My eye keeps getting dragged back and forth and I can't settle on any one part of the sett.

Is this just me, or have they designed an optical illusion tartan?

I saw this as well, and my first thought was how would I work this out on a kilt,it's a very busy pattern and I can't help but feel that if they were hoping to turn it into kilt, they would have done better to have spoken to a kilt maker.
Anyone walking behind someone wearing this might need some medical attention from the strobe effect!

too busy for me also... but, hey.. they tried.. hopefully the sett is very large..

I'd find all these diagonal black and white stripes rather hurtful on the eye.
All credit to them though for attempting a tartan.
Perhaps the black and white patterns in this tartan were inspired by the Shepherd's tartan.

I think the key phrase here is "approx 100 students participated in the design. . ."

Tartan by committee = too many cooks in this broth!

I think the only thing you could pleat this to (besides the sett, and that would be a challenge) without the pattern messing up at the taper is "no stripe," á la the IOS when that option is chosen. And then you might end up looking like a bumblebee.
