    My design

    Greetings all, 5 August, 611pmMST

Some of you may be interested in what I designed and registered a few years ago. I did this for our local County Sheriff Department. The Sheriff and I have been buds since grade school, and he was quite open to the idea when I explained it to him.

We did this on the occasion of National Tartan Day in '06 when I was President of our local Scottish American Society. We held a banquet for the occasion and made the presentation there. The Department built a special display case for visitors to see these items. It made me feel good to have had the idea, and to help give something back from the community to people who get little or no thanks for the work they do.

This is myself with the framed tartan swatch and our Sheriff, Mr. Chris Smith with the certificate from the Scottish Tartans Authority.

I based this on the Wallace pattern. I chose colors which I felt would be representative of a law enforcement entity. The black is for the color of their uniform, light brown for the color of weathered asphalt, white overcheck for the integrity of law enforcement personnel, and red overcheck in remembrance of those who were injured and lost lives in the line of duty.

    The certificate.

    Regards aye,

Wonderful design and good on ya for seeing the idea through to completion.

Great looking tartan, and a fitting tribute for the sheriff's office.

Guid oan ya, Brother! That is a tartan that I know they are proud of, and to ascribe such meaning into each color is brilliant.

    Greetings all, 6 August, 04:47MST

My thanks to all of you for your kind comments. I hate to miss a chance to do something good for someone else.

Sheriff and his immediate éntourage came to the banquet when we made the presentation. We had the Boise City Police Pipes and Drums come to pipe the tartan into the banquet room. I am big on pomp and circumstance, as it were. It was way cool.

A couple weeks later, I did another dedication in front of the entire assembled Department. As I was explaining the colors in the tartan, one of the detectives who had been shot during an investigation got all choked up over the significance of the red overcheck line.

I don't like to toot my own horn. It is humbling to have the praise of you good folks and others who admire the things I have done.

    Fide et Fortitudine, aye!
