Name that tartan

I won a nice wool traditional kilt recently on eBay that the seller said was the Anderson tartan- but I have my doubts. I count only 6 colours in it, not 7 and it differs from any Anderson tartan I've been able to view online. Any guesses what tartan this is?...........

It is similar to this Anderson, but obviously not the same. Probably the seller just looked for whatever was closest and named it that.

I tried to use the Tartan Ferrit, but I couldn't seem to find it. Maybe someone else with a better eye for colour would have more luck.

I couldn't find it using the House of Tartan Reverse Tartan Search either. I might have had some of the colours off a bit, but I tried switching black for blue in some of the smaller stripes and didn't come up with anything either. Maybe a closer photo?

A suggestion that helped me when I was trying to find out if some pv I picked up was a registered tartan or not is to place the material on a scanner. It picks up the colors better than photography and depending on the resolution of your scanner could actually yield a thread count as well.

I was looking at this tartan, and it is very close in terms of the MacBeth Modern tartan from Lochcarron or Strathmore. Not sure if I am correct, but it is the closest match I have found while looking at the tartans.

I agree with Mat... It's MacBeth... it's a little lighter than our version in PV (I'd call it "Ancient" compared to Modern).

Though I have no connection to MacBeth's (wife's best friend is one, does that count?

) I am a long admirer of that tartan. WHen I saw your photo I went "ooh ooh! I know this one!" But, alas... Good find though. Wear it with pride. I'm certain I will have a MacBeth kilt at some point or other...
