Colin, with your permission, I'm going to move this to the heraldry & tartans area.

    badges...

Instead of borrowing one, why don't you make your own, using a blank buckle & strap?

Remember that arms and crests in the Scottish heraldic tradition, belong to individuals. In the case of a clansman's badge, the crest inside the buckle-and-strap belong to the Chief, who "authorizes" his clansmen and women to wear his crest as a symbol of their loyalty to the clan.

Sometimes a pipe band or a similar organization will wear a clan badge & tartan with permission of the Chief.

    Regards,

    Todd

Cajunscot makes a very good suggestion. You can create your own original crest with a little creativity. You can even find some sites on the 'net that have tools for doing that. You can always pick things that interest you for the crest, like carpenter's tools.

One caveat: keep it simple, not too busy. And make your motto very simple too, something like "always square" or something like that if you go with the carpentry theme.

Good luck. Let us see your final product if you make your own.

I've always wanted to put a pressure suit helmet on top of my arms.
