    Phillips Tartan Question

    I hope the answer to my question is not as confusing as the answers I've found trying to research the name Phillips.

    It appears to be Welsh/Wales in origin, but under the tartan finder, there are two specific and completely different tartans...Which one is which or which one is the dominate or true Phillips tartan?

    Any Phillips that can also provide geneology/ancestory information is greatly appreciated.

    Respectfully,

    There is nothing historical about either of these tartans.

    The first one is "Phillips", ITI 3914, classified as a "clan/family" tartan. Designed in 2001 by Maxine Scott of House of Tartan and Rachael Phillips of Winsford, Chester. Available for Phillips worldwide.

    The second is "Phillips of Wales", ITI 5751, classified as a "Welsh Family" tartan, copyright Welsh Tartan Center in Cardiff. Designed in 2002 by Sheila Danial of Cambrian Woollen Mill in Powys. The different thing about his one is the odd number of threads, making the warp and weft different, unlike most tartans.

    They are both fashion tartans, designed for whomever likes them.

    Hope this helps.

    I would recommend the MacKillop tartan (which is the same tartan as MacDonald of Keppoch, so if you can't find it stocked under one name, try the other).

    MacKillop = "son of Phillip."

    Is there a historical or ancestorial (politically correct) tartan for that name/clan???

    Matt Newsome - would the District tartan Lochabor (ITI 685) be a possible choice? It comes up when I search for "Philip", instead of "Phillip".

    Interesting coincidence that this thread should have been posted yesterday! It was Stone Phillip's birthday, and I posted a thread about how he was shown kilted in the newspaper which noted it.

    I wonder if he was wearing a tartan connected to the family name.
