A Second "Isle of Skye" tartan 6091
Noticed at the STA website that there's a second Isle of Skye tartan...apparently labeled Earl of Skye in the Dalgety Collection (??)
Its a very sharp looking tartan of light brown/tan and a trace of green. First I've heard of it. But I like it.

I don't know about that one, Ron. It looks to me like it can't decide what it wants to be - a shadow tartan or a grown-up, colorful one. I rather like the IOS we all know already so much better. Now we'll have to distinguish one from the other, somehow.

Rex.

There is actually a plurality of tartans named "Isle of Skye."
No. 385 is a blue tartan woven by Edinburgh Woolen Mill as early as 1984.
No. 5324 is a dress dance version woven by Dalgliesh.
No. 5328 is a red dress dance version from the same weaver.
No. 5331 is called Eral of Skye dress blue, and appears to be another dance tartan.
No. 5332 is just called Skye and appears to be related to 385 (I think Alex Beaton has a kilt in this tartan -- see this photo).
No. 6091 is the one Ron mentions.
No. 2155 is the one we are all familiar with, designed in 1992 by Angus MacLeod, a weaver from Lewis. He won a contest instigated by Rosemary Samios, who now controls production rights of this very popular tartan (STA notes Lochcarron and Marton Mills as liscenced suppliers).

Thats allot of good information there, thanks M.A.C. Newsome.
You should repeat that final statement on the No. 2155 on the FC thread to show who has license to weave this tartan.
Thnks for the in depth informative post, very interesting!!!

Those are all very attractive. Each would be a perfect addition to any collection.
