    Should I change my avatar?

    Regards,

Todd, thank you for that link, it's very informative. In light of this new information I wonder if I should change my avatar. My avatar is a personal icon that I designed for my own use and I use it on several websites - the lion's head was taken from the clansman crest badge. I realize I live in the United States and am not technically under the law which pertains to Arms/Armigers, but I also feel the need to be compliant as I am a member of Clan Gregor and wish to show respect to the clan and to Sir Gregor MacGregor, Chief of Clan Gregor. Also my avatar has a background to it.

    What do you think?

First of all, you have a great looking avatar!

It's true as you say, that you are not technically under the law which pertains to Arms/Armigers. But, since you are an active member of Clan Gregor, I think you should abide by the customs and conventions which come with that membership. Just my opinion.

It's an image dude, don't sweat it. You aren't making claims you aren't entitled to.

(For the record, I am not really Jet Jaguar from the movie "Godzilla Vs. Megalon")
.. the kilt had concealed a blaster strapped to one thigh and a knife to the other. He was aware of the present gentle customs against personal weapons, but he felt naked without them. Such customs were nonsense anyhow, foolishment from old women - there was no such thing as "dangerous weapons," only dangerous people.

It's not as if you are passing yourself off as clan chief. It's only an avatar. Don't make mountains of molehills.

Unless you have inadvertently adopted your chief's badge (as opposed to his crest) and placed it on his livery colours, I really don't see any compelling heraldic reason to change your avatar. That said, you should not use it in any other form or medium except as a logotype on electronic forums. For example, if you were to use it on writing paper, business cards, or a flag, then it would take on a distinctly heraldic character, and that would be (at the very least) socially awkward.

This is what I was worried about. I don't use it anywhere other than the internet and I don't even know our Chief's livery colors. I'll keep it as is.. after some thought, I don't think I'm infringing anywhere.
