    Source for a priest tartan?

I'd like to get this pattern to make a kilt for my graduations, I should be graduating this semester from seminary with my MDiv and from SUNY Albany with a BA and both schools have purple as the one of the two school colours. I've found it at scotweb(source of the image) but the cost is 67.00 per yard of single with, that's over 300.00 in material just for a box pleated kilt . Any other sources that can get this to me for 60-75 for double width or 30-35 for single width?

    The pattern

This tartan (aka clergy) is usually produced in blue, and if you go that route I can do a box pleated kilt for you for $390. If you'd like it special woven in purple, though, I can make a box pleated kilt for you for $490.

I don't know from your message, but if you are considering making it yourself, the Scottish Tartans Museum offers custom woven cloth for $65/yd, 29" wide. That's $260 for a four yard length (for a box pleated kilt), and shipping would be free.

but good luck on having it be the end of the semester! Mr. Newsome is a VERY popular kiltmaker. for good reason.

My understanding is that with a 48" waist I would need a bit over 4 yards so your price isn't really any different from theirs, I based theirs on needing 4 meters. Biggest issue is cost, I'm graduating and have no spare money for paying someone to make it and would have to sew it myself, your site also suggests you couldn't get it to me in time even if I could produce the spare cash. The purple is wanted because it is the school colours and would be suitable for the lenten season as well.

Let me know how it goes!

We have a fellow here in Prescott who has a Clergy tartan kilt, the usual blue one, and it looks remarkably nice.

I fail to see how that is relevant! Dressing to match the liturgical season sounds a little...odd, actually. Shouldn't you be in sack cloth and ashes, if that were the case? All tartan is appropriate for Lent. Green, or red, or white (except Lenten Array linen), or rose, or cloth of gold VESTMENTS are not, unless it is a feast day.

    Kind regards,

Its not entirely odd, different seasons have different colours appropriate to them, Lent has purple, advent can be purple or blue, ordinary times are green. You'll find ministers wear robes or scarves appropriate to this fact. I'd like a kilt that matches my school colours for graduation, it just happens to be convenient that that particular colour will be more appropriate to wear on the pulpit at certain times.

Right, if your waist is a 48" you'd need to order 5 yards of the cloth ($325). We can supply the cloth in 8 to 12 weeks, typical time for a custom run.

If you are not set on that specific tartan. USA Kilts has a purple tartan in PV, you might check into that.
