Sport Kilt Logo

I know that the Sport Kilt logo is a non Heraldic Device and I appreciate that they can choose what ever device they wish however, in their slogan it says "Promoting the Celtic Tradition" yet the Rampant Lion faces the sinister and always strikes me as odd as in Scots Tradition, singularly it should face the dexter.

Was this a conscious decision to have it facing the opposite way or, an accident of birth? As they say 'Curiosity Killed the Cat', pun intended, but I cant help myself, I need to ask.

Face the sinister/dexter? so depending on which way it faces it makes it evil???

Just to be pedantic, if I remember my Latin correctly, sinister is left and dexter is right isn't it? Surely the Scots one faces the left (sinister) and the SportKilt logo faces right (dexter)?

The lion faces to the heraldic right. If the lion was painted on a shield, it would be facing toward the shield-bearers right hand. It's like "stage left" and "stage right".

maybe they couldnt do it because of copyright laws?

Nick, I don't think it would be 'copyrighted' as such, as it is an heraldic device dating back to King Alexander II of Scotland 13 century and probably was used by his father before him King William I (William the Lion).

The Lion itself is used in Heraldry in many shapes, colour's, sizes & holding various implements etc etc. If you were to use it as in the Royal Standard it certainly wouldn't go down to well with some Scottish families. But to use it in a form of a logo on a 'non' Heraldic device perhaps in a different colour and varied in some way I don't see much of a problem.
