Tartan differences....
Helloi, gang!
I haven't posten in quite a while. But, I'm womdering about something. My clan is MacNicol and I have three tanks in Dress Red, Hunting Modern and Hunting Ancient.
Somehow, I cannot find any good photos of Nicolson and its variants to which I can compare my three to. I know that the two families' crests and tartans were "divided" some time ago by the STA and are recognised as different by the Lord Lyon. But, without getting into the thread count and splitting hairs, just how different ARE they?
Does anyone have knowledge of an archive online they can point me to?
Nothing is worn under the kilt...everything works just fine!!

This is an aside (not a detour from the subject). Your comment about "crests" merits correction. First, they are coats of arms. Secondly, a coat of arms belongs to an individual, not a family. There's no such thing as a "family coat of arms" in Scottish heraldry. Finally, the STA has nothing to do with heraldry.
