Tartans for Double Box pleated kilts

Many have asked us what was the best tartan for a Double Box Pleated kilt.

This is a tough one to answer.

Hundreds of tartans will work fine for a Double Box Pleated Kilt.

Nevertheless, by posting this little drawing I hope you will be able to have a better idea of what I would suggest…
even though I did not have any of these tartans made into kilts for me personally.

My family tartans do not enter into the following category but do make fine Double Box Kilts nonetheless...

    Note : 1" = approx. 2.5 cm

    Here are a few examples…

    Braveheart

    Cameron of Erracht (M)

    Scotland’s National Tartan

    Carmichael (M)

    Earl of St Andrews

    ETC. ETC. ETC.

    Best,

    Robert

Merci, Robert - this answers a question that many of us have had.
Going by your diagram - does the sett have to be 25 to 30 centimeters wide, or will a factor of that work?
For example - inside of a tartan with a 30 cm sett, someone is using tartan with a 15 cm sett. If I understand your diagram, this would work, but one full repeat of the sett would be hidden in the double box pleats. Am I looking at this correctly?
I am easily moved for sympathy for dogs, far more so than for humans, because dogs do not understand. There is no way to explain that you will return, that the vet will make it all better, that they cannot go shooting today because that is not what today is about. They cannot work out that their misery is finite and will some time end, and so their misery is magnified.

    Absolutely !

    You are right on !

Here is an example of a large sett that works as well... :

    Hope that helps.

That was very helpful (particularly the use of both tape measures )
And I love the detail of the Red Robertson double box pleat (a familial bias).
    Merçi beaucoup.
