    X Marks Tartan fabric arrives

Ladies and Gentlemen of the forum!!!!!!!!

The first two of four bolts of the X Marks Tartan fabric arrived at my shop just a few moments ago.

Now here is the bad news.

The fabric has a fringed Selvedge not the Kilt Selvedge that I specifically ordered.

It is too late to place a call to Marton Mills today but I will be doing that early tomorrow morning. I am tempted to return this fabric and demand a replacement at their cost to include the $300.00 I just had to shell out for Duty and Taxes.

Would the members who have ordered and paid for fabric please respond to this post and let me know their wishes.
I will be directing Marton Mills to this thread to let them know what your wishes are.

Please make your choice known from these two options.

    1) Return all the fabric and demand it be re-woven with a Kilt Selvedge.

    2) Accept this fabric knowing that any Kilt made from it will require hemming.

KILT SELVAGE Please Return it to Marton Mills. I ordered kilt selvage and expect kilt selvage.

Just went to thier website, which has this about quality:

    Quality

We ensure that before fabric is despatched to the customer, all batches are subjected to a thorough quality control process. Shades are carefully assessed for continuity and durability is tested to ensure pilling performance is optimised, thus extending the life of the garment. We have achieved the ISO9002 quality standard, thus ensuring consistent quality with every piece woven.
Guess they do not live up to their word.

Oh, joy, just freaking *&YR*W&^* !@#$ JOY.

Just what you needed to make your bloody morning complete.

I'm getting pretty sick of hemming kilts and I'm in no hurry for my fabric. So send it back. You ordered, and we paid for fabric with a kilting selvedge, and I figured it would be along the lines of the selvedges on their other PV weaves...in other words not great, but not fringed, at least. But you know, if you just can't stand it, and have to send this stuff out, I'm not going to scream at you about it.

    1) Return all the fabric and demand it be re-woven with a Kilt Selvedge.

Kilting selvedge was ordered, kilting selvedge is expected. Sorry to put you through the hoops but it is certainly up to them to deliver -- and to refund your costs for the incorrect order.

I just wish there were a way for us to make up your time in this project. Thanks for taking it on (echoes of "if I knew then what I know now. . .").

All things considered, I would prefer the kilting selvedge, but if they were to say offer a 50% refund (which is what they would sell the returned fabric on their web site for) I could go as is.

My box-pleated fashion tartan kilt has a fringed selvedge and I quite like it. Though it is not what was ordered, I would be happy with the material as it is. If the mill were to offer a monetary compensation for the error, so much the better. However, as in many things kilt related, I will defer to your infinite wisdom oh great and glorious Wizard.

I'll likely be hemming my son's kilt anyway, to leave room for growth, but I'd sure prefer not to do any more hemming than absolutely necessary. I agree that since we ordered kilting selvedge we deserve kilting selvedge!

I'm assuming if they take back the fabric and replace it, they will then have a large amount of fabric for sale (at 50% off?) which we can then direct other members to their website to purchase.

I'm with everyone else, 1) Return all the fabric and demand it be re-woven with a Kilt Selvedge.
