Your opinions please: Another tartan doodle-US Navy (River Rats)

    Hey all!

Doing another tartan doodle via scotweb and want to know what your opinions are--especially from those who like me served as a "River Rat" in the US Navy. We provided a unique service and I wanted to see if I could capture that in a tartan. I wanted to get the blues of naval service along with the green and brown of the terrain in which we were deployed. I thought setting it off with black and white stripe framed things well as well as possibly representing crosshairs. Its just a sketch, so let me know what you think.

Over all, I think it's an attractive tartan - I'm just concerned about the crosshairs. Just which side of the crosshairs would the wearer be on?

    Regards,
    Rex.

A very nice looking tartan. I can see your inspiration. My regards to a river rat from a recon.

I like what you are trying to capture.... My first duty station was at Pearl Harbor and security at CincPacFlt, a lot of River Rats worked up there (80-82). I think the white between the stripes should swap with the red, show respect for the blood shed by your Brothers. It's just my opinion, from a Jarhead.

Great tartan for Littoral Warfare. Now you just need a kiltpin with a Mudbug on it.

Ahhh--in 82 I was in Panama...and went back there it seems ALL too often;-)

I moved the red around a few times and placing it where you suggest does make it stand out more--and yes--that's what I chose the red line to represent. The green is also a tip of the hat to the Marines and Soldiers we typically served with.

As a state side REMF with two ex BILs that were River Rats, I think they would both like that design.

I am not into the whole significance thing - BUT this design does say to me land and water AND it says it quite clearly. Its a handsome tartan.
