| | | New British Pub In Valdosta... or SHOCK AND AWE!!!
Hey yall,
Believe it or not there is a British Pub opening here in Valdosta this month just before Christmas! Saturday, 19 December the Queen Vic(toria) will open (or is planning to open) it's doors to the public. I'm sure they'll have some fine beers on tap, and in their window is advertised some tasty British cuisine (I know that's an oxymoron to some, but there's no accounting for taste). I didn't see Haggis listed, but I bet they'd fix us up some if we arranged for a sizeable group... (wink. wink. nudge. nudge.)
Now for the bad news (sort of)... my beautiful wife is due any day now (hopefully sooner than later), and thus I am unable to make any definitive plans whatsoever for the foreseeable future (ie next 18 years). Ok, so 18 years might be a slight exaggeration...but yall see where I'm goin' w' this.
At any rate, I thought the Georgia and N Florida rabble would be keenly interested in this new development, especially as our fine city is just off I-75 on the way to Florida (or back to points north). I couldn't find a web site for them, and I don't think they've quite made it into the phone book yet, but when I find out more info I will certainly holler! If necessity demands, I could certainly give manual directions to anyone wishing to patron the new pub- just holler!
Regards aye,
Wesley
PS: in a slightly unrelated story- I saw a white Chevy Tahoe(?) today downtown with a saltire window sticker that said: "Real Men Wear Kitls"! So time to fess up: who was it??? Inquiring minds want to know...

You're about 8 hours away from me, so I probably won't be there for the grand opening.
I hope they're wildly successful with their business.

The whole 18 year thing - that's a conservative estimate.... Congratulations to you both!

A new pub just opened in Jonesboro last weekend, too! The bar is not fully stocked yet, but the owner said he's working on it! We hope to go there sometime this week!

If you know Valdosta a'tall you'll know where this is, more or less...
PS: holler if you come in to town- I should be able to meet for a quick pint most anytime, barring of course I'm in the middle of having a baby! :P

Leonard Sanders | Welcome to the boards, Mr Sanders. I am honoured that my thread is your first post! Whereabouts are you located here in S Georgia? Waycross perhaps? We'll definitely keep you in the loop to any kilt nights there (especially if you're treating!).
Regarding a piping instructor, I don't know of any personally, but the Fire Dpt here has a few pipers (maybe more by now?) that have been playing for 4 or 5 years now at least. I don't think any of them are on the boards here, but you could enquire as to where they get their instruction? For my wedding last December, we hired a piper out of Tallahassee who has been playing for a VERY long time. I would be surprised if he didn't do instruction, though you may not want to drive all the way to Tally... Google pipers (or Joe Ashcraft) in Tallahassee and you'll likely come up on his website. Well, schucks... here it is (still had it bookmarked): http://www.floridabagpiper.com/index.html.
Hope you find your joy! Look forward to sharing a pint sometime soon.
Cheers,
Wesley
