Just moved to the empire state

Hello New Yorkers. I was just moved to Saratoga Springs and was wondering if there were any Kilties in the area. I would love to get some recommendations on things to see and do from some locals and have the opportunity to meet some more of the fine member of this board. Thanks!

Wow, welcome to my state, even if you're aways from the city! :-)

p.s. there is a member of the board in that town. just can't remember his name right now.

There are several great festivals in Upstate. You are pretty far east, so New England has alot to offer you as well. Look for the Central NY Highland Games in Syracuse, there are Games in Ithaca, Amherst (near Buffalo) and Olcutt, east of Niagara Falls. We have an active Scottish Heritage Society in Rochester, and there are pipe bands all across Upstate.

Hope to see you at an event!

Did someone say upstate? I'm from Westfield, about an hour south of the Canadian border!

Thanks for the replies and advice y'all. Dee, the military does have a tendency in aiding one to "get around." Really the winter here isint as bad as I was dreading, though I have been told that it has been very mild so far. If only the thermometer would go above freezing this place would be great! All that aside I am happy to be seeing new things but still miss my 60-70 degree winter in SC. Any chances in a meetup halfway between here and the city, since that seems to be where most of the NY kilties are located? Rochester is a further drive than NYC for me.

There are a number of Albany area and Hudson Valley members on board here, so I'm sure a gathering could be concocted in that region. Lots of good pubs in that corridor that would be perfect for a Kilt Night!

If you're ever down Binghamton way, come to ours! (link below)

As to getting above freezing, don't worry. That should happen by St Patrick's Day...!

I know what you mean - it's been five years, and I still haven't gotten used to how mild the winters are in Buffalo.

Welcome to New York from almost due west.
