Travel Prep

In August, my wife and are looking to travel to Amherst or that vacinity for the games held at the Amherst museum. Clan Barclay is hold their AGM there this year. Can anyone give me some pointers as where to stay that won't cost me and arm and a leg. I'd like to stay for a few days and roam around.

You have a big tent, don't you? Try Central Park.

I can't offer any help, but I hope the trip works out nicely for you.

Yeah that would be nice, but there is a bit of a distance between NYC and Amherst. This is up near Niagra Falls. Opposite corner of the state.

Please do. We're thinking of renting a car and driving up. Its not too bad of a drive and it will give us a chance to see places we may never get to see.

The route up takes us through Kentucky, Ohio, the tip of Pennsylvania and then into New York. Are there any must sees in that vicinity? I'm sure we'll make a run for the border into Canada.

Reminds me of when I lived in Texas - "Where are you from?" "Erie, Pennsylvania." "That's next to Philadelphia, right?"

I wish I could help, but the last hotel that I stayed in here was a Micortel (but it is on the I-290, relatively near to the Amherst Museum).

Well, the Canadians have the better view of Niagara Falls, so I would cross the border for that ... the SOKS might even make a kilt night of it.
As for must sees ... well, it depends on your interests. In Northwest PA and Western New York we have historical sites from the French and Indian War and the War of 1812, other historical sites, some state parks, locally famous restaurants and stores ... it also depends on your route, and how far off it you want to go.
I'm guessing up I-71 to I-90 and points east, yes?

Remember if plan to go to Canada that you'll need a passport or enhanced driver license to return to the states. You need to be able to prove your citizenship.

We do have our passports and they will be packed. I'm game for historical places. I've never seen anything from the F&I War period. That would be cool. I'd even consider staying off the interstates to more. Maybe for the return trip. I don't know about a meetup with SOKS. That would have to meet with approval with the boss. We'll see.
