| | | Burns' Night in Dallas?
Was wondering if anyone in the Dallas area was attending a Burns' Night (in particular the one hosted by The Scottish Society of Dallas, if there are multiple)? I know it's a wee bit early for it, but I was hoping someone could comment on how stringent their dress code is? I know it's "black tie", but I'm hoping what I've got now will suffice. - Navy blue PC w/ waistcoat
- 8-yd 16 oz traditional kilt
- Black semi-formal sporran with white bovine front
- Black ghillies, plain coloured hose, matching tartan flashes
- No sgian dubh at this point but planning on getting one soon (maybe this one)
- Guess I need a wing-tip shirt and bow tie, too
I just don't want to be the poor chap in the corner everyone is sniggering at

There are tweed jackets to be seen and I feel what you plan to wear will fit right in. I wouldn't worry about a sgian dubh for the event either, but I would try to find a jacket to wear.

Prince Bonnie jackets, sorry. Most of the men remove their jackets (pretty quick) so if you didn't have one no one would notice.

Ah ok. I've got a Prince Charlie, so I should probably be fine. Thanks for the input!

Honestly, there are some ppl. @ this event (especially females) that wear some pretty...uh...unorthodox (to be kind) attire. What you've listed as wearing will be great I'm sure.

Females can get away with just about anything (or just about nothing, in some cases...)

Just noticed this posting... wow, maybe my first outing in my new kilt!
But I don't have a formal jacket or ghillies, because I'd always assumed I'd be casual when kilted. I might have a waistcoat if it gets here by then.
I'll be nervous enough to go out in "public" (i.e., not highland games or something I've already been to in the past). I'd hate to look foolish!
