Is anyone members of any other social forums?
I spoke to Curtis (the manager of Flying Saucer - Fort Worth) and he says to get something going where we can have regular Kilt Nites at the Flying Saucer, the successful actions has been to make a Facebook or MySpace group and get people talking and showing up. We can then hijack them over here to get them onboard here.

This is the only forum I belong to, or have ever belonged to.
* Oops! I'm stupid, this is for Texas. Although, I did live in Texas for a short time and have friends and relatives back there. Sorry. *

I have a Facebook (there is also an XMTS Facebook page). I do have a MySpace page, but really don't use it. I haven't personally done anything like that, so I'm not sure how well it works to drum up interest. I have hoped that the D/FW group could start to be more active like some of the other groups on XMTS who have regular outings (there wouldn't have to be one particular "meeting" place either, since we're spread out over such a big area).
I think, too, that just trying to plan regular gatherings from here and getting out will hopefully get the others active again. I know I've had one kilt day type thing I've wanted to do for a while but I just haven't had the chance to get it rolling yet. People get so busy and then it's hard to organize. There will also be the opportunity to get even more members to join up while we're out and if we ever get a D/FW group page.
Maybe that's something we can chat about as we start getting together for kilt nights and see what all we want to do to organize a bit better
Wolfhawk, thanks for taking an interest in getting things rolling and checking into some things. By the way, you didn't have any issues with fires in your area did you? I heard on my weather radio that there was one near Weatherford.

Yes, there were lots of fires out this way. There were a HUGE fire near where I use to live (3 miles away) near Lake Weatherford. We are not out of the woods yet. It is someone starting some of the fires out this way, on purpose. Some were accidents, some on purpose.
I set up a poll to figure when we can meet. I would suggest that we have three - One in Fort Worth, One in Dallas, and one in the Mid Cities. Rotate months, that way every place gets 4 times in a year. I am not suggesting the Flyuing Saucer is the only or best place, but I had to pick some pleace to suggest and I am there 2 or more times a week anyway.
The 1st poll will find out days and you can vote for multiple days.
The second will help with location. I want to get this going so we can be able to meet at least once a month for some "face time".

Well, I hope things calm down soon with the fires, and that there isn't too much damage from it
Christopher and I might take a day or so to reply to the polls to give it some thought and see what the options are. Just fyi! |

I have MS and FB both. Can't say I really use either of them, but in theory it couldn't hurt. Anyone in the area could stumble upon it and like you said point them to XMTS.

I use MySpace to communicate with family... But it seems more people check out my site and comment on it.... It's possible to probably link up X Marks on the page and get some roamers coming in and checking things out.. I personally have a diverse group of family and friends (Native American, Irish, Scot, and military) so a little cross cultural education would be good.
Maybe we can come up with a linked banner promoting XMarks and put them on our sites and promote the kilt nights locally to bring in interested people.. It's a thought and will maybe draw one or two in.. But it's a start.. Let me know what you think.

There is also an Xmarks page on MySpace, too, I think. My url is in my profile here... not sure if you can see my friends listed (I have private profiles on both MySpace and Facebook).

Easy to Google up many other kilt forums if you're trying to find others who haven't found this one yet. Many of us found out about X Marks while active on other kilt related forums. i.e. its Steve Ashton's fault I'm here. He told me about X Marks on the English Utilikilts forum.
But point is, other kilt forums may also be a way for you to round up more kilted locals for a kilt night and spread the word about X Marks.
Found a site - NOT a forum - sponsored by a number of X Marks sponsors too. www.kiltnight.net which kinda says that most folks don't read the calendars on their various forums and this site's effort is to centralize info on kilt nights and Burn's supper's etc. Looks like its in the early stages of growth. But with the Internet you never know. Can't hurt to post there. Good luck.

Hawk, Hope you guys are ok out there. There's smoke from it here in Dallas! I like your ideas and nominate you our Texas kilted leader! Lol. Seriously though, it only takes us doing it. I moved here from AZ and those guys get together all the time in kilt nights. We can/should too. Today, more kilted gatherings in Texas...tomorrow, the world. MoooHahaha. Sorry, it's Friday and I'm digging it. Quote:
