A New BC Social Group

Panache clued me in to a new section of our forums that I had no idea existed. The Social Groups.

So I thought I would start a group for us here in BC.

I call it BCinYa.

You can find it here;
http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/groups/bcinya/

Now we have not only the forum proper but regional sections, A Facebook page and now Social Groups.

Everyone who lives in or dreams about living in this special place we call BC is welcome to join. We can keep track of everyone and hopefully use it to let everyone know about events and members from BC.

We will even allow members from Langley to join.

OK, OK! You convinced me, I'm in.

Here's the first announcement.

Victoria Kilt Night.
Friday, May 15.
Time to be determined.
Big Mikey will be in town for the games, vending his assorted wares and helping?? with the Freedom Kilts tent. And as it is my birthday on the 16th, I will have a bottle of Sweet Sippin' Maple Whiskey to pass around in the parking lot.
You have been warned.

Sounds like fun! I'll have to see if I can make it out for that one!

How about Kamloops? We are what people from the islands and Lower Mainland usually refer to as "beyond Hope."

I've been to Kamloops. The locals mooned our train as we arrived in town. "Beyond hope?" It's likely but I suppose there is always hope for the kilted.

Get thee down to Victoria and drink beer. You might be saved.

Ah, well. It's a small town. What else is there to do on a Thursday?

Mind you, it's larger than I remember from my first visit, in 1967. Quite the metropolis. So much so that I don't live in town! Bloody neighbours...

Just got back from there as a matter of fact. I drank beer. I also made a pilgrimage to see the Wizard, about which more later. The man is a kilted god.

Now here's a funny story -- funny because of your comment above. A group of us decided to take a walking tour of downtown Victoria led by a professional guide. I guess you could call him a "docent" but though the walk was billed as an "historical walking tour" it was really ghost stories. OK, cheap at twice the price, so...

During the course of the walk we meandered past the Sally Ann where one of the local dispossessed was trying to rally his mates to moon the group.

Not the first time in Vic for me by a long shot! Blew a reasonable amount of money on kilt bling and hose, ate an unreasonable amount of really good Dutch pastries, stuffed myself on curry times three, and courtesy of the Wizard found a lovely little bagel bakery (and collected a really good story from a gent who was in line ahead of me).

All in all a most enjoyable few days. Next time I'm bound that way we should get up a kilt night at the Bengal or something...
