Sorry, I don't live anywhere near there anymore - but I did graduate from Lakenheath High School more years ago than I care to remember. Last time I was back that way was about 6 or 7 years ago.

I live ten miles down the road from RAF Lakenheath. I look forward to meeting you when you arrive.

thanks I land the 2nd and will be busy checking in and finding a place to live the first week but it would be great to meet up.
Any info on areas to look for houses would be great. I talked to the housing office and they gave me 416 listings to look through not much help.

So you're FIGMO! I spent 3.5 years at RAF Upper Heyford in the 80's. The UK is a wonderful place to be stationed.

Without knowing the specifics of the listings you have been offered it is very difficult. But, my advice is this - go to Google maps and find Brandon, Suffolk. Follow the A1065 in a SW direction; you will see an area bounded by Lakenheath village, Wangford and the A1065 - that is RAF Lakenheath. (Where it says 'RAF Lakenheath' is in fact the Married Quarters and not the operational area - security, I suppose.)
You will be commuting to work, so you want to avoid Brandon like the plague. Look at it on the map - there are 5 roads converging on Brandon and 1 Railway crossing. At rush hour, Brandon is gridlocked, there are no back roads or 'rat runs' - you are stuck on the main road and creep along like everybody else.
Whereas to the SW from RAF Lakenheath there are a variety of villages and easier access to the air base.
Regards Chas

You getting there in Oct is the same time I got there only 66-70. I lived just down the road near Mildenhall at the corner of A1065 and Brandon Rd. The house was haunted But my wife and I got along well with him. The travel ops for going anywhere in the UK are great and you will have a great time there. I was one of the Base Photographers. Great Job.
