    Ice-spikes on Gillies?

    Hi!

Next week Thursday I will get out in Kilt again and as it´s very icy here in the city at the moment I´d like to ask people if it´s ok to put ice-spikes on the gillies enroute to and from the event.

    Greetings

    Ingemar

Just wear proper shoes! A lot of people on here are not keen on gillies but it's your choice

As long as you find a set of spikes that will properly fit & you're only wearing them to & from the event, I say go for it. Personally I'd rather be safe & sure-footed than to fall down & injure myself or my kilt.

I don't see this as a matter of proper etiquette or good style. It's a matter of personal safety. If it's slick enough to warrant using them then I would do it. There's no point in sliding around and getting hurt.

IMHO you would appear more foolish if you took an avoidable fall than you would by wearing spikes.

And I would NOT want to see some guy in a kilt sprawled out on the pavement! That would be wrong on so many levels....

Get yourself a pair of Yaktrax... They easily slip on and off of your shoes and work like a charm.

I'm thinking that something like a pair of these or something similar might even be really noticeable.

I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

I third the YakTrax suggestion. I have a pair and love them.

And there are far worse offenses than wearing a pair of snow boots under a kilt.

    Please be safe,
    Don't follow the advice,
    Of lifting up yer kilt,
    And sliding on the Ice!

Now that that's out of my system, whatever keeps you walking safely is the important thing! Cheers!
