I think the important part with a cookie monster is not the arms or legs, but the utilization of the tongue, distended below the edge of the top flap (mask).

Also, make sure the eyes 'google' about.

As an aside, I think the only proper contents of a cookie monster sporran would be, of course, cookies. A perfect marriage of vessel and contents.

Cookie Monster doesn't have a tongue, and has anyone ever seen his legs?

Great Googly Moogly, you're right!

I always thought he had a flat, felt tongue glued to the bottom of this lower mouth section (on the inside)... weird.

I googled images for him...er, it...whatever. I only saw 2 with a tongue, and they appeared to be from the early 80's and were promotional pics, not stills from the show.

Maybe all those cookies wore it off. Or he swallowed it. Or only wears it for special occasions and public appearances.

Interestingly, I noticed three distinctly different tongues on Grover. Not sure if it's an evolution over time, or if they use different ones for different things.

Man, I am such a nerd.

I believe traditionally the arms and legs are pulled off after the hunt.

This may beat the full mask Wookie that I saw on Tartan Day.

And for those of us old enough to remember before Sesame Street went all PC, COOKIES ARE AN ANYTIME SNACK!
